Young athletes are getting injured more than ever - not because of bad luck, but because of
poor physical development combined with the intensity of sports.
During adolescence, kids are believed to be sedentary for 50-80% of each day, and as a result, their tissues are not as developed and fortified as they need to be. The poor “Movement Diets” that young athletes get everyday is robbing them of essential adaptations that make an impact on their ability to play sports. When you combine this with the high training loads and the early specialization that plague youth sports, you end up with kids that are severely underprepared for the physical demands of sports.
We strive for every athlete to experience their ultimate athletic ceiling by avoiding chronic pain and injury - but our mission goes even deeper. Kids that participate in sports throughout childhood have a much higher chance of embracing an active lifestyle as they mature through adulthood. An active future generation is a healthier future generation.
In any sport, the athlete with superior balance and body awareness will have a clear edge. Sports demand instantaneous joint arrangement to execute powerful, efficient movements. Elite coordination is the backbone of athletic ability.
How much training can their body take before the risk of injury becomes too high? Increasing their capacity means they can safely handle a higher volume of practice and play. More opportunities to practice and play means more time to safely hone the skills needed to succeed in their sports.
Skill is the power of discernment. The core of all competitive sports involves the ability to make split-second decisions that give them the best chance of winning. Creatively problem-solving for an incoming defender or anticipating an errant pass is what separates the good from great.
